about the work
My new favorite subject in the last two years has been birds in addition to my energetic abstracts. I love birds for their rich variety, color, and endless settings. I have also been encouraged by the increasing sales as they seem to have a universal appeal. You will see I sometimes combine both of these subjects in my work …
Coming from an extensive professional career in interior architecture, I often reveal my love of structure whether it be a tree or building elements. My richly patterned abstracts are a translation of years of designing intricate space plans and scaled furniture drawings.
I love to build on improvisational applications of the acrylic medium (from thin to thick consistencies) to achieve character and depth through layered effects. This technique allows both transparent color and line in contrast to bold and solid areas of color that result in interesting, complex surfaces.
This combination of strong color and bold design in partnership with the versatile acrylic medium allows me to create works of beauty and optimism. I work with these familiar subjects of our everyday lives because they evoke a special memory for me and hopefully for the viewer. I strive to create hopefulness in our hectic culture through my art.
