Liefje's Bio

Painting has been a passion of mine since I was a child. My family members including artists, sculptors, and architects served as early mentors. While working toward a bachelor's degree from Auburn University's School of Architecture in interior design and receiving top honors, I studied drawing, advanced painting, and art history.

Early in my marriage and while living in Japan, I worked as a professional illustrator for the U.S. Army. The wonderful artisans of Japan were a strong influence with their sense of color, design, and clear vision of expression. I attended graduate school at the University of Illinois and studied independently under the renowned landscape artist and author Edward Betts. He encouraged me to enter juried shows and express my own spontaneous style in acrylics.

After many years as a commercial designer, I was able to return to my first love - painting. Although my work has won awards in many local and national juried shows and is included in several private collections, I paint everyday because it is my calling… it feeds my soul.

I have served on the board of the Atlanta Artists Center (500 members) and the Advisory Board of Tara Materials/Fredrix Artist Canvas . My work can be found at Bobbe Gillis Gallery in Atlanta. www.gillisgallery.com, Junor Gallery in Decatur, Georgia www.junorgallery.com and Little Art Gallery in Raleigh, North Carolina.
